EMDR Therapy
Trauma overwhelms your mind and body. Your brain is simply not designed to deal with it. Whether you were in a terrible accident or experienced childhood trauma, EMDR therapy can help you heal from traumatic and stressful experiences.
What is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a brain based therapy that helps people process traumatic memories. Research shows that trauma is stored in the body so traditional talk therapy is often not enough to help people process the trauma.
EMDR uses lights, tapping, and/or sounds to create bilateral stimulation to allow the brain to move traumatic memories that have become “stuck”. EMDR allows the brain to complete the natural healing process. Events will still be remembered but the distress connected to the memory will be less.
EMDR is recognized as an effective treatment for PTSD by various national and international organizations including the American Psychiatric Association, American Psychological Association, and World Health Organization.
What can EMDR help with?
EMDR can facilitate healing from various traumatic events and life stressors including:
Anxiety and Panic Attacks
Phobias
Performance Anxiety
PTSD
Sexual Abuse
Violence
Childhood Trauma
